9 Enzyme Rich Foods That Help Improve Digestive Health

You have trillions of cells in your body, and each of these cells contains thousands of enzymes [11].

Enzymes are “catalysts,” meaning that they increase the rate of chemical reactions in your cells. Your cells need enzymes to make energy, repair themselves, and build new cells.

7. Tempeh

Tempeh is made of fermented soybeans, and during the fermentation process, enzymes are generated that help digest the soybeans [9]. So you can think of tempeh as already partially digested food.

The enzyme and probiotic content of tempeh work together to aid the digestive system.

8. Avocado

Similar to oats, avocados contain lipase.

If you consume lipase, it can reduce the uncomfortable fullness that results from digestive stress after high-fat meals [10].
